SCAD takes 3rd at 2013 ANRC

Equestrian Finishes Third at the ANRC Nationals

Ryan Genn - Equestrian Fences

In total there were 38 riders and 12 colleges competing this past weekend.  SCAD had a total of 4 riders representing the college. Senior, Caroline Ingalls, junior, Lydia Todd, and Ryan Genn and Devon Walther, both freshmen.  The competition started Thursday night with a written test.
The team was 6th overall in the written phase. The second phase was the dressage and the Bees took 2nd place overall.  Caroline Ingalls and Lydia Todd were 2nd and 3rd as individuals in the dressage.
Overall the competition was an incredible show of endurance.  Sunday was a much colder day, and the event started with the derby course in the field – the third phase.  The team was 1st overall in the field, with Ryan Genn winning as an individual and Devon Walther placing third.
The third phase of the championship was “out of the ordinary” as described by Coach Ashley Kelly.  In her words she commented that “the students had a difficult time with their horses, especially for putting in the best rounds of the field phase.”
The final phase of the competition was the medal phase.  Overall for the entire competition the SCAD team finished third.  The scores were averaged together as follows, 5% for the written phase, 35% for the dressage, 30% for the derby, and 30% for the medal rounds.
Kelly had this to say of the event, “The riders were very strong and they tried incredibly hard in spite of the cold weather.   I am so proud of my team and to both of my captains for the effort and dedication they put into this show.  They worked so hard to help with everything.”
